Scent Messages

Talkin' Scents 101
 Scent Messages & Memory

As a Certified Consultant with Scentsy Fragrance, I often talk to my customers and hostesses about Scent Memory, and how powerful that concept is.

Have you ever noticed that a particular scent can bring forth a rush of memories? The smell of cookies baking (Scentsy Fragrance: Sugar Cookie: Warm, sweet blend of butter, sugar, and creamy vanilla.) might remind you of spending time at your grandmother's house when you were a small child. The scent of a particular perfume or cologne (Scentsy Fragrance: Shaka: Classically cool: rich sandalwood infused with a splash of bergamot and lime.) might remind you of a romantic partner with whom your relationship ended on a sour note.

Adding onto the concept of Scent and Memory, I want to touch base on something that I have found quite interesting, which is the concept of Scent Messages.

You're probably thinking, what the heck is a Scent Message??...

Well, its a similar concept to Scent Memory, meaning that when you happen to smell a particular scent, it evokes something that you remember in a personal way, however, research has found that you can actually alter your mood by evoking these memories.

When we smell, a chemical formula rises in the nose and lands on thousands of smell receptors which identifies them and forwards the information to the brain. The brain in turn then responds with “These molecules are configured in such a way that I recognize them as the smell of coffee which I associate with a great taste and a pick-me-up feeling. I think I’ll get up and have a cup.”

Scentsy Fragrance: Perk Me Up - Simply the most perfect cup of coffee you’ll ever experience. A strong brew of Guatemalan coffee beans and just a touch of hazelnut.

The feeling associated with, for example, coffee, reminds us of the feeling of a pick-me-up, or in other words an energetic feeling. Whether or not you actually have that cup of coffee is a choice you make on your own, however, the scent itself already worked in such a way as to remind you of the feeling of being awake and energized.

Much like motivational images or quotes that our sense of sight or hearing to encourage a change in behavior, scent messages also change the behavior connected to the scent.
For example, the scent of lavender (Scentsy Fragrance: French Lavender: Pure, herbal fragrance of wild lavender from the hills of France.)  sends the scent message that triggers feelings of relaxation. Once memorized by the brain in that sense, exposure to that particular scent can trigger that feeling at any given time.

This has made researchers make great progress on Scent Therapy, and the study of how scent can manipulate and change the moods of a person.

Scent messages are precisely engineered to influence behavior. They work with the natural sensory system of the body of scent identification and response. The ingredients of a scent message do not enter the brain.... so no chemicals of any sort enter the brain whatsoever meaning... in a nutshell, there is no chance of side effects only the message.

Scent Therapy is an exciting new technology that gives individuals personal control over enhancing moods and influencing behavior.

Pretty neat stuff huh?

I found it interesting anyway!! Another reason why I love Scentsy Fragrance! The power of scent is unbelievable, and unknown by most!

Now.... maybe I should try some scent memory therapy at home on myself.... how can I motivate myself with scent to CLEAN and DO LAUNDRY?? haha (maybe Scentsy Fragrance: Clean Breeze: White florals with a touch of spring; this is the scent of fresh, clean laundry.)

That's all for now,

All my love,

A Piece Of Advice

Life Advice
Talkin Scents 101

What is the best advice in life thus far that
you have ever received from someone?

Hey Scentsy Friends!

My Scentsy Blog post today is going to be more life related than Scentsy Fragrance related, however, I feel as though because Scentsy Fragrance is an important part in my life now, it all sort of co-mingles together anyway.

Today I want to talk about advice.... What is the best advice in life thus far that you have ever received from someone?

For me, it may be many of things that I heard time and time again growing up. My family had amazing morals and values, and although this wasn't a quote stated by anyone, I know from seeing my family's own great success in the business world, that the best piece of advice I can think of is that "Hard work pays off"

My family started a company just over 35 years ago now, and it has grown into ways that we had never imagined, and although we are widely known  as a leader in our industry now, it didn't come easy, and it didn't happen overnight. It was hard work and dedication to something we loved that got us to where we are today, but I believe the most important point in becoming successful in any type of business would be to always stay humble. My Grandparents, My Parents, and my Uncle and Aunt all are perfect examples of people who have learned to stay 110% humble and honest, and yet can still be very successful.

The next big piece of life advice I have learned over the years is that your happiness is a decision that you make on your own. You shouldn't be allowing anyone around you to determine your happiness. You are your own outcome on a daily basis. You have the choice to be happy. Even when the hard times come around, you can still choose to see the light at the end of the grumpy train tunnel. I have always tried by very best to begin every day on a happy note, and end every day on a happy note.... This doesn't mean I don't get upset ever, or that I don't get angry at times.. cause HELLO I am human too! haha, but at the end of the day, I look back at everything that I have, and how grateful that I am in life, and that, on any day, makes me happy.

My absolute favourite quote sums up both of these pieces of advice.... You'll find this quote posted everywhere around me... on my desk at home, on my business cards, and on any card I send out....

"Success is not the key to happiness. Happiness is the key to success.
If you love what you're doing you will be successful"

I can honestly say that these are now words that I choose to live by. I know that in whatever endeavors I choose to follow, that happiness will be the key to that endeavor being successful.

If you aren't happy with how things are going in your life, choose to be happy, and change things! After all, you're not a tree... get up and make a change! I am a firm believer that each day is a new opportunity to strive toward your goal, or to start a new one.

Anyway,

What's the best piece of advice you have received? I'd love to hear it!
