Talkin Scents 101

Hey Scentsy Friends!! - This is just for fun! If you had to choose one of the following #scentsy
warmers for this room, which would you choose?

I think I would personally pick #7, but that might just be my obsession with owls taking over!

How do they come up with these things?

Scent Of The Month
How Do They Choose?

Talkin Scents 101

Hey Scentsy Fragrance friends!

Have you ever wondered how Scentsy Fragrance comes up with that oh-so-perfect Scent of the Month each and every month?

Here's what I have learned (a little behind the scenes look!!)...

And hey... I always thought it was drawn from a hat!! haha ... kidding! ;)
There are a lot of factors that come into play when Scentsy chooses their Scent of the Month.... First off, they have to start off with the Season. It just wouldn't make a ton of "scents" to release a floral fragrance in the dead of winter... (although maybe that would be a little of a pick me up for those winter blues!! hint hint... Scentsy - A Winter Blue's Scent!! haha)... But, winter for example, they would think first off what do people look for? They want the sense of warmth and comfort! This is where they come up with fragrances such as Cider Mill.

Next, they think of the Warmer of the Month.... for example, this past January we had the "I Heart You" warmer, what makes you think of valentines day and love? .... This is where they came up with the fragrance Forever Yours.

Then, we look at the Current Catalogue.... Scentsy Fragrance always wants to make sure that the Scent of the Month does not smell like something that is in the current catalogue, they want it to be something different, but that still is current with the season. If they had a bunch of fragrances that all smelt the same at the same time, where would the fun be in that?? lol They are smart cookies over at Scentsy Home Office!!

Of course, with that being said, they also have to look into Future Catalogues... Scentsy Fragrance is always 10 steps ahead... As of October 2013 they were already working on the Spring/Summer 2015 catalogue, they are way ahead of the game! Sometimes they think ahead to the future catalogue fragrances, and pull from that and introduce them as the Scent of the Month as well, because they know, that timing is key for fragrance release.

Moving on, Scentsy Fragrance also has to think of trends... now although trends can be tricky (because they come and go so quickly)... So although pre-planning in advance is an asset to Scentsy Fragrance, they sometimes need to be on their toes as far as current trends go, and be prepared to release Scent of the Month fragrances that work with current trends.

Lastly, Scentsy Fragrance will rely a huge amount on the Feedback they receive. They are on top of Social Media platforms such as Facebook and Twitter, and do honestly listen to their hard working Consultants as well as their customer base as to the opinions of the fragrances they've released.

"Our Scents of the Month are designed to represent the whole spectrum of fragrance throughout the year, so it is expected there will be those who may not like one or two. Polarizing fragrances may be skipped over by some, but keep in mind – others may become customers for life because they appreciate us recognizing their unusual taste. We try very hard not to alienate anyone while at the same time, we try to ensure we offer a fragrance for everyone. " - Scentsy Blog

School Is Almost Out!

Creating Summer Memories
Through Scent
Talkin Scents 101

The end of the school year is right around the corner.... This is a very exciting time of the year for families, because its the best time of the year to plan family road trips, camping trips, and other memorable family events.

When it comes to memory, did you know that Scent and Fragrance plays a major role in remembering details of events?

The power of scent is truly amazing, and it will blow your mind when you start to smell Scentsy Fragrance testers and evoke memories that are so backed up in your mind that you didnt even know they were there!

Think about it....

You’re at the ocean with your family, building sandcastles and playing in the water, when suddenly you are flooded with memories of your very first family vacation to the coast when you were five.

Beach, By The Sea, Ocean, Havana Cabana

You’re on a hike in the woods and you smell something familiar, but can’t quite put your finger on it. Wait! That smell! It’s the same smell from summers spent at Grandma and Grandpa’s cabin, where you and Grandpa would hike for hours as he taught you all about nature’s beauty.

Thunderstorm, Tomato Vine, Serene Green, By The Sea, Peony Petals

Try it yourself!
Get a hold of me and my testers, and lets remember!!!

Consultant Tip - Customer Service

It might sound obvious....

Talkin Scents 101

Although this may sound obvious to some, I know there are people who do not understand the importance of good customer service. As an Independent Scentsy Consultant, your customer choose you as their representative. They have the choice between many others, but they choose to use your services.... Why? ..... Have you ever asked yourself why your customers return to you? or perhaps, why they don't?

Providing excellent customer service is key in any business, but is most important when it comes to direct sales. The products we provide with #scentsyfragrance aren't hard to come by. There is always someone in your area that is more than willing to provide good quality customer service if you choose not to.

You want your Scentsy business to be an experience for your customer. Your customers are going to keep coming back to you due to the great experience they have had with you.

Don't get me wrong, this doesn't mean you have to go over and above and constantly be at your customers becking call, however, you do want to do those little things that lets your customers know that you appreciate their business. This could be something as simple as having a file somewhere that has information about your customer... for example, the warmers they have purchased in the past, or their favourite fragrances. Keep tabs especially on favourite fragrances, so that when the next catalogue season begins, if that scent is going to be discontinued you can let that customer know first hand.... call them up and say "hey, I know you love this fragrance, I just wanted to let you know that as of September it will no longer be available!"

It can also be as simple as sending them a hand written thank you letter after an order or a party. I try to be aware of my customers special days as well, for example their birthdays, anniversaries or their kids birthdays if you can. Give them a call, or send them a card for these occasions to let them know that they're on your mind!

The worst experience a customer can have is one where you don't remember who they are. They will feel as though you're too busy to remember detailed conversations that perhaps they remember clearly and found important. I always try to take notes on important things I have talked to people about... I keep track of these things in my notes, or in my contact files... so when they do call me up, i can easily check out their info and know where we met, what we talked about, and the information they may need.

Good quality customer service does not have to be difficult.... It is more getting to know your customers on a more personal level, and understanding their wants and needs when it comes to your business and the products you provide.

This is my tip for the day, and I hope this makes you think about the experiences you provide for your customers! I hope they all enjoy the #scentsy experience they have had with you thus far!

All my love,
Brittany Gerrity

Fragrance Friday
Talkin Scents 101

So I was out pulling the never ending weeds in my garden, and the floral smell got me in the mood to start warming this fragrance. Now, don't get me wrong, I am not personally a fan of overly floral fragrances, but something about this one just screams summer to me. Perhaps its because I was elbow deep in flowers and soil that sparked my interest in this fragrance, but in any case, I am beginning to have a new found love for the florals :)

Peony Petals... Yep that's right!
Available In: Scensty Bar, Room Spray, and Scent Circle

You cant get much more floral than THAT Scentsy friends, however, it does have that outdoorsy scent to it as well, which I personally think is what gets me going. I love the outdoors in the summertime... even though the outdoors doesn't always love me (beign allergic to the sun and all).

Scentsy Fragrance
FAQ
Talkin Scents 101

https://brittanygerrity.scentsy.ca

  • What is Scentsy Fragrance?
Scentsy Fragrance is a Scentsy Family brand that offers a variety of home and personal fragrance products.
  • What products does Scentsy Fragrance sell?
Scentsy Fragrance offers a variety of home and personal fragrance products, including scented wickless candles and decorative ceramic warmers, which together provide a safer alternative to burning wicked candles.
  • What are wickless candles?
A wickless candle is a highly fragrant wax bar that is warmed to release fragrance into the air. Because the wax is gently warmed rather than burned, it can hold more fragrance oil than a traditional candle. And, because there is no flame, there is no smoke, soot, or lead. Scentsy wickless candles are a safer alternative to traditional candles.
  • How is the wax warmed?
Scentsy’s beautiful warmers house a low-watt light bulb that slowly melts the Scentsy candle bar, filling your home with one of more than 80 distinctive and long-lasting scents.
The combination of a Scentsy warmer with a Scentsy Bar is known as a Scentsy System.
  • Where are Scentsy products made?
Scentsy’s wickless candles and home-fragrance products are made in Scentsy’s state-of-the-art manufacturing facilities in Meridian, Idaho. Our ceramic warmers are designed by Scentsy and made to our exact specifications by our manufacturing partner in China.
  • Can I buy Scentsy in a retail location?
No. Scentsy is a direct selling company with a sales force — known as Independent Scentsy Consultants — that sells our products through home parties, open houses, fairs and trade shows, and fundraisers. Scentsy products are perfect for sharing in a fun and friendly party environment!
  • Does Scentsy have a catalog of products?
Yes. Each year, Scentsy releases two new catalogs — one in March for the Spring/Summer season and one in September for the Fall/Winter season. Ask me for your own catalog, or view it online on my personal website
  • How can I buy Scentsy products?
To place an order or host a party, me personally. The best way to buy Scentsy is by hosting a party! When you host a party, you have a chance to experience and share over 80 unique fragrances and dozens of warmers, all while you have a great time with your friends and family! Hosting is easy, and the best part is you can earn free and half-price products while you’re having fun!

Knowing The Difference

Knowing The Difference
MLM VS PYRAMIDS
Talkin' Scents 101

When I began my Scentsy Fragrance journey, I had a few people flat out tell me or should I say assume.... "you're involved in the pyramid scheme... good luck with that"... First off... the Pyramid Scheme is illegal.... so I will start off with that.... but I didn't know there were so many skeptics at first in regards to Scentsy Inc., until I started talking about it with family and friends. Their examples, although understood by my part, were uneducated and were not correct.
So I don't want any potential new members to the Scentsy Family (of anyone's team) to feel as though this is the case... I suppose is where I am going with this anyway. I want everyone to be aware of the differences, and why being a part of the Scentsy Family truly does work....Recruiting or not, you can still make money and have fun all at the same time.

So, lets chat....

Pyramid Schemes:

1) Definition of a Pyramid Scheme: A pyramid scheme is a non-sustainable business that involves the exchange of money, usually in the form of a sign-up fee, and usually has no product or service.

2) Know that pyramid schemes are illegal! The only people that are able to make money on a pyramid scheme are the people at the top of the pyramid. As stated above, because pyramid schemes offer no product or service, there is no way for the people at the bottom of the pyramid to make any money unless they sign-up new members for a fee.

3) Learn the elements of a pyramid scheme: The idea of these schemes is the promise of sky-high returns in a short period of time for doing nothing other than handing over your money and getting others to do the same. Those that are behind a pyramid scheme will go to great lengths to make the program look like a legitimate multi-level marketing program so be careful. Despite their claims to have legitimate products or services to sell, they simply use money coming in from new recruits to pay off those who invested earlier on.

4) Look for other identifiers: Example...Vague descriptions about the company from which your questions can only be answered by signing up and paying the fee... No product or service being offered or a product that sells at a highly inflated price. A majority or all of the possible income to be made comes from the sign-up fee from new recruits, and typically they will reiterate over and over again that their company is "legal".

Multi-Level Marketing (MLM):

1) Understand the difference: Multi-level marketing companies follow a similar concept to a pyramid scheme, which is the common misconception and the reason for the confusion.
There are two significant differences: One difference is that members at any level can make income through the company’s products and/or services without signing up any new recruits. The second difference is that members of an level can earn more than the people who signed them up. and lastly, MLM companies are legal although structured similarly to the pyramid (hence the confusion).
2) Understand Why: The main reason for this type of model is to reduce the cost of advertising. Many new companies do not have this much capital in the beginning. Instead of the company spending hundreds of thousands or even millions of dollars on advertising, the company gives the members an incentive for signing up new members to sell/use the company’s product or service.
3) Know the common elements: This will assure you will have a fair chance to make money from the company: Consultant earnings should be based on product sales and team members, not merely on signing up recruits. he cost for consultants to begin selling company products should be $200 or less, and the company should offer a buy-back policy. Consultants should not be required to buy large amounts of inventory that they can wind up stuck with. Consumers should expect multilevel-marketing consultants to identify themselves, the company they sell for and the products they are selling. Consultants should expect the same from multilevel-marketing companies. Consultants should provide a consumer with a receipt after a sale and should promptly end a product demonstration if asked to leave.. meaning, no pressure sales.
FYI - this is a partial list
4) Be prepared to work.. As is true with any venture, your income will depend on the effort you put forth to be successful. You can work an MLM business in may ways, whether as a hobby, a part time job, or to build a team of your own.... So you choose the directing in which you wish to take this business! You don't HAVE to build a team to earn an income... but you can if you'd like!

Also, just to add to that.... these MLM companies will follow the DSA's guidelines if they are a legitimate business, so please feel free to look up the DSA online for more information!

Lets just recap... because any company that promises you money for doing nothing is not being honest with you, lets face it... that's just a load of bologna, and you know it!

All my love,
Brittany Gerrity

Thoughts For Thursday

I came across an article....
Talkin' Scents 101

Hey Scentsy Friends!

I came across an article posted/shared by a Scentsy Director on Facebook that I found quite compelling and interesting in regards to Scentsy Inc.
I suppose it was the title that "peaked" my interest.. "Has Scentsy peaked?" written by Zach Kyle ....

I thought, there's NO WAY that they've peaked in this business. I know that even though this company has grown to substantial proportions that they have plenty of room for growth.
Although Scentsy Inc. announced the discontinuation of Grace Adele this year, I do not believe that this is a cause for concern for the longevity of the company as a whole. You can read my post in regards to the discontinuation on my blog as well. Orville and Heidi make smart decisions, both for the business and for the lifetime of their Independent Consultants careers... if you know anything about the Scentsy Inc. background/history, you would understand how hard they had to strive and persevere to get this company even started in the beginning. They will not let something hold them back, and know where their best quality's are to focus on. (For those who don't already know this, Orville purchased Scentsy 10 years ago now and began his adventure on his own. Operating solely out of a shipping container on a sheep farm. He hand made warmers, and had to start the business from the ground up himself along side his beautiful wife.)

The article describes not only the hardships that Orville and Heidi Thompson incurred while getting this company off of the ground, but also where they are now. It also touches base on the "Pyramid Scheme" that is often thrown in the faces of those in direct sales. (On a personal note: I feel as though those who accuse these direct sales companies of this are the ones who don't even understand what the difference is between a pyramid scheme and multi-level marketing... * maybe that deserves a blog post all on its own.... *)

"The Thompsons have come a long way from the metal shipping container on the family sheep farm in Meridian, where Orville made the first Scentsy bars to package with the electric warming devices by hand. They've come a long way since they sold car-wash shammies, self-filtering water bottles and massagers in booths at fairs and home shows in Washington state while operating their first business, Event Sales."

Orville an Heidi completed the new construction of their $88 million headquarters last year. The 73-acre property has an outdoor amphitheater, fountain and more than 1,000 trees. This company is doing well, obviously and they aren't planning on going anywhere anytime soon!!

Anyway, I'm not going to go into too much detail about the rest of the article, because it was well written and deserves to be read itself.

So look it up on Google!!

In the end, Scentsy Inc. is not going anywhere....and I am SOOOO GLAD FOR THAT!!

"Orville Thompson said Scentsy will evolve by developing new products. But the original, linchpin products that have generated more than $2 billion in sales aren't going anywhere.
"The concept of fragrance delivered through wax heated by a light bulb will last as long as the government allows us to have light bulbs," he said. "There isn't a better way of getting fragrance.""

News Regarding July's WOTM

NEWS UPDATE
SCENTSY FRAGRANCE
JULY WARMER OF THE MONTH
"IT'S A PARTY"

https://brittanygerrity.scentsy.ca

Hey Scentsy Friends! Some bad news and some good news for you today!

So... Bad news first....

For those who were excited like myself to get your paws on the July 2014 warmer of the month "it's a party" unfortunately due to quality issues with the painting (yes it was hand painted) Scentsy Fragrance has decided not to sell them. They pride themselves on quality and were not happy with the shipments ...

The Good News....

So to compensate they will have a different offer for July:

During the month of July, customers and Consultants who would like to purchase the discounted Bring Back My Bar 12-pack may select from ANY of the 20 BBMB scents for $45 (USD)/$54 (CAD).  That's a 25 percent savings over the single Scentsy Bar price! To take advantage of the discount price, all Scentsy Bars in this 12-pack must be BBMB fragrances!

Thank you #scentsy for being the amazing company that you are and for standing behind your product 100%!!

On a personal note...

My Scentsy Blog... My Journey Update

How I'm feeling, and my Personal Goals

Talkin Scents 101

I often get asked by other members of my team how I manage to stay motivated on a daily basis... Motivation is key in the direct sales world. You have to love what you're doing!

My favourite quote is:

"Success is not the key to happiness. Happiness is the key to success. If you love what you're doing, you will be successful"

I never want anyone to think that being in direct sales is a walk in the park... It doesn't just happen overnight, and you do have to put effort into your business if you wish to succeed. Now... don't let that discourage you, because with the Scentsy Family you truly are given a ton of amazing tools to utilize and their guidance is out of this world amazing. It also would depend on what your goal would be in the long term.... Those who just want to gain back on personal sales, are going to have much different goals than those who wish to build a team.

So..I'm talking about meeting my own personal goals, and when that doesn't necessarily happen....

You see... I tend to shoot for the stars with my goals, rather than take small (more manageable) steps...and I feel as though sometimes I am putting forth exuberant amounts of effort, and I am not seeing the results that I personally want from myself. This is when I become hard on myself.... I always have to revert back to the fact that things happen on their own, when they're supposed to.... and this does take time. Although at times, its hard to keep that mantra within your line of sight.

I also need to learn to make my goals more managble... The goals I set now, shouldn't be short term, they should be more of long term goals... I know this in the back of my mind, but I am so eager to share Scentsy with everyone... So I suppose balance with goals is key.

So, to make sure I keep myself on track for reaching said personal goals, I have found that simply writing down your goal helps a ton. This may sound silly, but to all of those who have their "Dream Boards" done up are actually the ones who tend to reach their personal goals (from those I have met anyway). Thus far, I haven't posted a "dream board" for the world to see when they walk into my home, but I think that may be my next goal... putting it out there. As of right now I just write down my personal goals in my binder, and only see it when I open that up...
So maybe if its IN MY FACE, it will stay on my mind better, and be more motivational to start accomplishing those goals.

So, that will be my first goal ... reaching my goals?... lol

Next, I have decided that I will dedicate a minimum of 15-30 minutes towards my Scentsy Fragrance business per day. It could be a combined 30 minute session of sitting down and planning... or I can be accumulated throughout the day by completing and doing smaller tasks. Our Super Star Director actually started a motivational summer thing with our teams... Its called the Summer Movers and Shakers... we all post daily on the Facebook group about what we managed to accomplish that day in regards to our Scentsy Fragrance business.... I LOVE THIS IDEA. It's awesome because your fellow independent consultants can bounce ideas off of one another, and learn different ways to operate a Scentsy Fragrance business to get to those goals.

I also tend to go over the #ichoosescentsy / #ichoose calendar that Scentsy provided us around the time of Spring Sprint this year... It was a pre-determined calendar full of daily challenges to complete.

Now... my next biggest goal (which will be an ongoing one) although it may seem small, is getting out of my comfort zone.... behind a keyboard I tend to be able to communicate what I wish to portray much easier than if I were face to face with someone.. I know this is the case for many of us.... Not that I am shy in any means, once a conversation is going, I have no issues...

I am speaking solely in the regards of going up to a complete stranger... say in the grocery store, or at the bank, etc... and just simply talking about Scentsy. I feel like I may be interrupting their day or something... I always try and be available to everyone, but I feel like people now-a-days lead such busy lifestyles and they always seem like they're in a rush to get onto their next daily task.
So, I need to figure out a way to be involved with my community, and share the Scentsy experience with those around me, without being nervous that I am being a burden. Hrrmmm... maybe that sounds silly... I don't know, but it is how I feel lol.

I also need to discover a good way to introduce and share the Scentsy experience from an Independent Consultants point of view... you know, how it has changed their lives, or what they can achieve by enrolling....

So... Throughout this post, I have described several personal goals... So these are the areas I know that I need to improve upon and focus on... and that is my plan!
What do you do to stay motivated?

That's all for now Scentsy Friends!

All my love,

JUNE 2014

-Brittany Gerrity

Honestly... WHERE TO BEGIN!! There are so many AMAZINGLY FANTASTIC things going on with Scentsy this month..... So.... let just get right into it!

Scent & Warmer Of The Month
JUNE 2014

Okay, so some people that I have spoken with seem disappointed with the warmer of the month for June... but for me... I LOVE IT. Not only does it showcase the Canadian spirit, its yet again, another VERSITILE warmer!! Its a gallery warmer!! WOOHOOO! This means you can interchange the frames to suit your needs! There are multiple frames to choose from... however my favourite frame is the snapshot frame, because you can put any photo you'd like inside of it :)

Any who... The warmer is called "True North"
Featuring symbols that represent the diversity and beauty of Canadian nature and culture, celebrate your love of country with a True North Gallery Frame on a Gallery Cube Warmer in Ebony.

The scent of the month is "Berries Jubilee" -  Juicy, ripe summer berries in a billowy cloud of whipped cream laced with vanilla.

My Scent Opinion.... Ohhhh Emmmm GEEEEEE - haha it smells so delish!! Almost like some sort of berrie dessert.... Its not overly vanilla, but it has that sweetness to it that I LOVE. It smells absolutely fantabulous warming!! I have it going right now in my kitchen! Its been a hit in our household so far... My 5 year old also took a bar from my SOTM kit, and hid it in her room because she doesn't want them all to "go away" haha

My First Large Vendor Event

What I Learned & My Experience
-Brittany Gerrity

Hello Scentsy Friends!!

So I hadn't hyped up my vendor event very much, only a couple reminder posts about the event itself to raise awareness in my community (because proceeds were going to the Canadian Breast Cancer Society)...
Reason being, it was my first large vendor event, so I wasn't really prepared for what was going to happen. I can tell you, that I learned quite a few things.

I have many good things to say, and also many bad things (not that it will deter me from doing future events, however, I will not do any events under the coordinator who set this one up for multiple reasons).

So on a positive note, my set up was fantastic! I had a 10 x 10 space, in which I was able to set up 3 tables, as well as a join banner (available on the Scentsy Family Store to Independent Scentsy Consultants) and a banner, and my own display that I had previously had approved from compliance before the event.

I made a lot of connections to new faces, and loved the opportunity to actually talk to multiple people about Scentsy Fragrance and WHY I love it so much, and also how to have it work into their lives. I had a ton of feedback from the samples I had put together (including wax samples, body sprays, shower gels, body lotions, washer whiffs and laundry liquid).

The best part of this booth was having the opportunity to connect with other businesses as well from the area, and get contact information from them. I have a feeling I will have a few places now that will allow me to set up a warmer in their reception areas for some additional advertising! Yippee!!

On the downside... the biggest piece of advice I would like to offer anyone (from any direct selling company really) is to first off ask the coordinator for a list of the vendors who are already signed up, as well as confirm that they will not double book the same vendor brand. Turns out that this coordinator was aware of the polices and procedures of all of the vendors effected, but just didn't care all that much about it.
There were 3 companies there, including Scentsy Fragrance, that were double booked...
So once my booth was set up I walked around the other vendor tables to see who else was there... at the exact opposite end of the arena we were in, was another Independent Scentsy Fragrance Consultant who was just beginning her set up... There was a discussion between the two of us... knowing one of us had to pack up and leave because we both knew we couldn't be there at the same time... Luckily she was willing to pack up since her set up wasn't completed, but it was SUCH A HASSLE to get the money back from the coordinator for the cost of her booth.... Same situation went for the other two companies that had the same issue.
So that was problem number one... Good thing is, Scentsy sisters aren't mean to one another, we were both willing to sacrifice the event, and we were very good with one another...

Problem number two, and my second piece of advice... Always ask the coordinator if they will be handing out "swag bags" or "info bags" at the front doors....
Not one of the vendors at the event knew about these swag bags they were handing out, which I found pretty silly... My issue came about when I noticed the swag bags had Scentsy Fragrance information inside of it.... When my mom showed up to visit me, she handed me her swag bag... I opened the info... it wasn't my information, nor was it the other Independent Scentsy Consultant's info who showed up as well.. it was a third party!... I have to admit that I was offended... Everyone entering this event is receiving this  information, coming to my booth and looking at all of my product and taking my samples... yet they are going home with their information )... not that I wasn't handing any out... but for those who didn't stop by... they have another Independent Scentsy Consultants Information... Not that it's her fault either (she paid to be in the swag bag... Which I also made sure that I contacted her to make sure she knew about the situation as well)...

It was very disappointing to say the least to have these things happen, especially when the coordinator didn't care or have any feelings towards it what so ever.

In the end, I got a taste of what it was like to set up a big booth, and have to prep and plan... but the most important thing I learned, was how to keep my cool in an overly annoying situation, and take it with a grain of salt. Hopefully my efforts of handing out my own information and talking to potential customers face to face was more than enough to have them come back my way.

So, now I know what to look for and to ask in regards to doing larger events (or any event). It was a good learning experience, and I am still glad that I stuck with it and went though with it :)

That's my update for today!

Lots of love,
