Team Semi-Annual Meeting

Hey Scentsy friends!

I have to say that I had a SCENTsational weekend! I hope everyone else did as well!

The best part of my weekend was our Semi-Annual team meeting/BBQ! What a fun and informative day!

I am lucky enough to live close to my director, and I have the ability to meet up with her one on one on a more regular basis. I know that some Independent Scentsy Consultants don't necessarily live close to theirs and may only get the chance to see them at major events (such as Spring Sprint or Family Reunion). I am blessed to be in contact with such an amazing group of individuals who all are very generous with sharing their experiences and knowledge with one another to help each other grown and be successful together.

I was even more excited when I was able to spend the day with my Super Star Director as well, she travelled quite a distance, but I was so happy to have the opportunity to meet with someone who is that down to earth and is that willing to come and meet up with us just to hang out and hear what we have to say!

I am such a happy #scentsysister and so blessed to be part of such an amaizing #scentsyfamily!

Why Join Scentsy?

Opportunity Awaits!

I like to touch base on this subject more often than not... Reason being, if I don't, I feel extremely selfish!! I join the Scentsy Family in October 2013, and have not looked back.

The opportunity to join is simple, you pay your starter kit fee, and become part of an amazing family of Independent Consultants.

I have had some people say that the starter kit fee seems to be high, in Canada the start up cost is $119 plus tax and shipping. Now, although for some having to up front this amount of money may take a little bit of planning, but I can help you earn this cost back in one day in commission! So you wont have to up front the fee for long! :)

Lets not forget the fact that the starter kit is valued at over $200 and it includes:

  • 80+ scent testers to share with party guests
  • Beautiful demonstration products like Warmers, Buddies, and Bars
  • Catalogs, order forms, and business materials like invitations and marketing brochures
  •
NOTE: AUGUST IS THE SUPER SIZE STARTER KIT! - you will not only receive the spring/summer catalogues and testers, but you will ALSO receive catalogues and testers for the fall/winter catalogue season at no extra cost to you!

Now lets talk about support!! How does Scentsy help you succeed??

  • Personal Website FREE for 3 months ($12/month after that)
  • FREE online Workstation to run your business
  • No inventory to manage
  • Live phone support
  • World-class training

  • Plus you have access to myself 24/7 via phone, email, text etc. plus access to our teams facebook page which is an amazing support system as well! You are never alone in this process, and you will quickly learn how easy it is to run your own business and be your own boss.

Now... The most frequently asked question... What can I earn?

  • Commissions up to 30% (when you qualify for monthly sales award)
  • Lucrative bonuses and awards
  • All-expenses-paid trips to destinations like Hawaii, the Bahamas, Greece, or New York City

  • The next incentive trip right now is an all-expenses paid cruise! Wooohoooooo!!!

So ask yourself the following questions:

Could you use an extra paycheck every month?
    - maybe pay for your car, your school, some bills, save up for a family vacation?

Do you want to be your own boss and choose your own work schedule?
    - run your business your way! You choose how much or how little you want to be involved! You can work this business full time, part time, or just on the side!

Do you want to travel to numerous beautiful destinations ALL-EXPENSES PAID?
Travel to destinations like Greece, Bahamas, Las Vegas, Hawaii, New York City, or go on a Cruise

Do you want to have the tax benefits of being self-employed?
Have the ability to write certain business expenses off, such as car mileage, gas, office space, business supplies, etc. (always check with your accountant!)

    Fall/Winter 2014 Charitable Cause Product

Since 2009, the Scentsy Family Foundation has donated $3.5 million to 12 charitable organizations in the U.S. and Canada through the sales of our Charitable Cause Products. Over the years, cause products have helped organizations that fund life-saving medical research and awareness, provide support and education to military veterans and families, and in general, make the world a better, more meaningful place.

Of all the causes you have supported, one of your greatest efforts and largest contributions to date was the Fall 2010 Cause Warmer, Love, Life, Hope, which benefited the National Breast Cancer Research Foundation in the U.S. and Rethink Breast Cancer in Canada. Our donations to those organizations totaled $646,779.

Four years later, we are thrilled to announce that our Fall/Winter 2014 cause product will once again support these amazing organizations.

Introducing Ribbons of Hope, a bold and modern warmer featuring the iconic pink ribbon. This warmer pays subtle tribute to our first warmer to raise for breast cancer – Love, Life, Hope, in its simple shape and black, white, and pink color scheme. A single pink ribbon inside the dish reminds us to inspire hope in anyone affected by breast cancer. We will donate $7 (USD)/$8 (CAD) from the sale of each Ribbons of Hope warmer to the National Breast Cancer Foundation in the U.S. and Rethink Breast Cancer in Canada.

Thank you for your continued dedication to our mission to bring value to the world through the charitable cause products we hold so dearly.

Let’s make this our biggest donation opportunity yet!

    Scentsy Home Party Idea

    Scentsy Home Party Idea
    Open House Style
    Talkin Scents 101

I haven't re-vamped my home party games in quite some time, and I always like to play a booking game with guests (as a consultant, you will learn how important playing booking games can be with your business). Your goal, after all, when doing home parties, is to book more parties! This is the best way to make you business flourish.

I play "chance and honor" most of the time when there are regular home parties, when I can hand everyone their "bag" and tell them all to hold onto it and not open it until I have finished explaining the game... This works wonders for home parties that guests are there from a certain time all at once...

However, I have had more people choose to do an open-house style party over a more structured traditional party.

So, in order to do this, I came up with my own version of the balloon game. If you are a current consultant, check out your workstation under the games that Scentsy has provided for you for their version of the balloon game.

Basically, I have a presentation board (something you can pick up from your local business supply store) that I have decorated Scentsy style lol

I then have 10-15 balloons (or more depending on the estimated size of the party) that all have a piece of paper inside of them that has some form of prize written on them. Now the type of prizes you give away are totally up to you, but I usually have one GRAND PRIZE, one SPECIAL PRIZE, and then the rest are smaller prizes such as scent circles, and travel tins.

The guests, when they arrive, are asked to pick a balloon on the board (they are already blown up) and write their name on the balloon using permanent marker.

After they have chosen their balloon, I explain how the balloon works... they are able to pop their balloon if they are willing to host a party, and they will receive the prize inside! Here's the catch, they only get to receive their prize the day of their party!

I always explain to them what the GRAND PRIZE is, so everyone gets excited to play, and are wanting to pop their balloon before they leave the party.

Anyway, thought I'd pass the idea along, because it was something I could come up with for guests who weren't always going to be staying the entire duration of the party.

    Scentsy Family Reunion 2014

Wishing all of my Scentsy Fragrance Sisters & Brothers safe travels and that I wish I was going to spend time with you all during this awesome adventure!

Next year, my goal is to attend, PROMISE!
I hope to see a ton of photos being posted, and a ton of YouTube videos from those consultants that I follow as well to see your experience and feel the excitement through you all!!

    Scentsy Warmers & Finishes

    Scentsy Fragrance
    Warmers & Finishes
    Talkin Scents 101

When I first began my Scentsy Fragrance journey, I had never imagined the true quality of the products that I was offering, and the amount of effort that goes into them to make them as unique and special as they are.

Most people tend to flip through the first couple pages of our catalogue to get to the "good stuff" haha, but I wanted to take the time out to discuss the warmer differences and the different finishes that go into them.

I also get asked the question "What's the difference between a Premium and a Deluxe warmer?" In the past Scentsy Fragrance used to use the terms "Mid-Size" and "Full-Size" warmers based on the size of the warmer, which later changed to "Premium" and "Deluxe" simply because the warmers aren't categorized by size anymore, more so on the finishes and amount of work that goes into them.

The more of a process they require will determine the category in which they fall under. The same goes for the Lampshade collection warmers, which are made of hand-blown glass rather than porcelain.

Keep in mind, that because its called "premium" does not make it a "better" warmer... the deluxe warmers work just as perfectly, however, they require a less of a production process to be made.

    The Warmers:

Light bulb warmers: These warmers use a low-watt light bulb to melt wax and provide patterns on light. These are available in a range of sizes and designs, including plug-in style warmers that are perfect for small rooms with limited counter space (such as a bathroom).

In this Photo: Fizz Premium Warmer
    https://brittanygerrity.scentsy.ca
In This Photo: Jane Plug-In Warmer
There are also element warmers, which use a heating element to slowly melt wax. You get all of the benefits of Scentsy without the light. (Perfect for those who want Scentsy in their room, who do not like light on at night).

    Finishes:

Throughout our catalogue you will find indication marks that let you know the type of process that was required to make that warmer.

The "H" stands for Hand-Painted finish. Which means that the warmer is finished with hand-painted accents, carefully and individually applied by craft workers.

The "R" stands for "Reactive-Glaze Finish". Meaning one-of-a-kind warmers created with a reactive-glaze process that gives each piece a handcrafted look.

    https://brittanygerrity.scentsy.ca

The "C" stands for Crackle Finish. Created with a glaze that crackles when heat is applied in the kiln. Tiny cracks appear on the finish, giving the warmer a distinct, aged look.

    Scent Messages

    Talkin' Scents 101
     Scent Messages & Memory

As a Certified Consultant with Scentsy Fragrance, I often talk to my customers and hostesses about Scent Memory, and how powerful that concept is.

Have you ever noticed that a particular scent can bring forth a rush of memories? The smell of cookies baking (Scentsy Fragrance: Sugar Cookie: Warm, sweet blend of butter, sugar, and creamy vanilla.) might remind you of spending time at your grandmother's house when you were a small child. The scent of a particular perfume or cologne (Scentsy Fragrance: Shaka: Classically cool: rich sandalwood infused with a splash of bergamot and lime.) might remind you of a romantic partner with whom your relationship ended on a sour note.

    https://brittanygerrity.scentsy.ca/Buy/ProductFinder#//property/72/SB-SUG

Adding onto the concept of Scent and Memory, I want to touch base on something that I have found quite interesting, which is the concept of Scent Messages.

You're probably thinking, what the heck is a Scent Message??...

Well, its a similar concept to Scent Memory, meaning that when you happen to smell a particular scent, it evokes something that you remember in a personal way, however, research has found that you can actually alter your mood by evoking these memories.

When we smell, a chemical formula rises in the nose and lands on thousands of smell receptors which identifies them and forwards the information to the brain. The brain in turn then responds with “These molecules are configured in such a way that I recognize them as the smell of coffee which I associate with a great taste and a pick-me-up feeling. I think I’ll get up and have a cup.”

    https://brittanygerrity.scentsy.ca/Buy/ProductFinder#//property/58/SB-PMU

Scentsy Fragrance: Perk Me Up - Simply the most perfect cup of coffee you’ll ever experience. A strong brew of Guatemalan coffee beans and just a touch of hazelnut.

The feeling associated with, for example, coffee, reminds us of the feeling of a pick-me-up, or in other words an energetic feeling. Whether or not you actually have that cup of coffee is a choice you make on your own, however, the scent itself already worked in such a way as to remind you of the feeling of being awake and energized.

Much like motivational images or quotes that our sense of sight or hearing to encourage a change in behavior, scent messages also change the behavior connected to the scent.
For example, the scent of lavender (Scentsy Fragrance: French Lavender: Pure, herbal fragrance of wild lavender from the hills of France.)  sends the scent message that triggers feelings of relaxation. Once memorized by the brain in that sense, exposure to that particular scent can trigger that feeling at any given time.

    https://brittanygerrity.scentsy.ca/Buy/ProductFinder#//property/28/SB-FRE

This has made researchers make great progress on Scent Therapy, and the study of how scent can manipulate and change the moods of a person.

Scent messages are precisely engineered to influence behavior. They work with the natural sensory system of the body of scent identification and response. The ingredients of a scent message do not enter the brain.... so no chemicals of any sort enter the brain whatsoever meaning... in a nutshell, there is no chance of side effects only the message.

Scent Therapy is an exciting new technology that gives individuals personal control over enhancing moods and influencing behavior.

    Pretty neat stuff huh?

I found it interesting anyway!! Another reason why I love Scentsy Fragrance! The power of scent is unbelievable, and unknown by most!

Now.... maybe I should try some scent memory therapy at home on myself.... how can I motivate myself with scent to CLEAN and DO LAUNDRY?? haha (maybe Scentsy Fragrance: Clean Breeze: White florals with a touch of spring; this is the scent of fresh, clean laundry.)

    That's all for now,

    All my love,
    Brittany Gerrity

    Happy 4th Of July!

    Talkin Scents 101
Wishing all of my friends in the USA
    A safe & happy 4th of July!

These are some tips/advice I came across when we celebrated Canada Day! Our family hosts a large annual Canada Day party, this year being larger than normal as it was combined with my birthday party as well, but generally with more than 100 people are in attendance each year, so we always try and make sure that we follow an easy set of rules to ensure that our gathering goes off without a hitch, and that everyone can have a fun and safe day celebrating!

    Tips For A Safe Celebration:

    1. Be a safe swimmer. Water sports and fireworks are two of the biggest pastimes for summer celebrations, and these are both linked to numerous deaths and injuries each year. Never swim alone, and make sure that kids' water play is adequately supervised at all times. Many children or adults drown occur when other people are nearby, so always have a designated chaperone for water play and don't assume that others are watching the kids. Alcohol consumption also increases the risk of accidental drowning. (remember: even in some public areas, lifeguards are not always on duty at all times - check your local beach areas for more details).
    2. Fireworks - If fireworks are legal where you live and are planned to be a part of your celebration, be sure to store and use them safely. Keep the kids away from the fireworks at all times, and keep spectators at a safe distance.
    3. Use alcohol responsibly. Alcohol and fireworks can be a hazardous and dangerous combination. Also, have a designated driver to bring partygoers home from the festivities. Remember also that alcohol and swimming can be as dangerous as drinking and driving. Where we live, there are DD companies which take you and your vehicle home safely, in which we pre-purchase gift certificates for guests as well as an extra precaution.
    4. Boating - Lakes, waterways, and seas will be crowded with boats. Review safe boating practices, and don't drink and drive your boat. Alcohol consumption while operating boats or other motorized water vessels is illegal, and you can be arrested for a BWI (boating under the influence!). Be sure that you have an adequate number of life preservers on hand for extra guests. Become familiar with the boating laws in your area.
    5. Cover food and beverages outdoors to discourage bees and wasps from attending your party. If someone is allergic to insect stings, you should have an emergency anaphylaxis kit on hand. Wearing shoes, long sleeves, and long pants outdoors and avoiding fragranced body products, bright colors, and sugary drinks can also help prevent bee stings.
    6. Apply sunscreen both before and during an outdoor party. Ultraviolet rays from the sun can cause both premature aging and skin cancer in the long term, and a painful burn the next day. Even those with darker skin should use a sunscreen with a minimum sun protection factor (SPF).
    7. Check prescription medications you are taking to assure you will not have a sun-sensitizing drug reaction to the medication.
    8. Bugs & Bites - If you'll be hiking or camping in an area where ticks are abundant, wear long-sleeved, light-colored shirts and long pants tucked into socks or boots to protect yourself from tick-borne diseases. For your skin, you can use a tick repellent.
    9. Hydrate well! Spend adequate time indoors or in the shade and drink plenty of fluids to avoid heat illness in extremely hot climates. The risk of heat-related illness is increased when participating in strenuous activity or sports, and those with chronic medical conditions and the elderly are also at an increased risk of heat exhaustion and/or heat stroke. Alcohol consumption can also promote dehydration and increase the risk.
    10. Keep children away from campfires and grills. Gas leaks, blocked tubes, and overfilled propane tanks can be a cause of grill fires and explosions.
    11. Don't leave the picnic spread out all day. Allowing food to sit in outdoor temperatures can invite food-borne illness. The U.S. FDA suggests never leaving food out for more than one hour when the temperature is above 90 F and not more than two hours at other times. Foods that need to be kept cold should be placed in a cooler with plenty of ice or freezing packs and held at a maximum temperature of 40 F. While mayonnaise and other egg dishes are often associated with food poisoning, any food can potentially become contaminated.

    Core Values

    Scentsy Fragrance
    The Company

The basis for Scentsy Family's business philosophy comes from a quote by Albert Einstein — a quote that so inspired Orville Thompson as a young man he kept it posted on his bedroom wall: "Try not to become a man of success. Rather, become a man of value. A successful man takes out of life more than he puts in. A man of value will give more than he receives."

When they launched Scentsy, the Thompsons determined from the beginning to build their business around core values of simplicity, authenticity, and generosity.

    A Piece Of Advice

    Life Advice
    Talkin Scents 101

What is the best advice in life thus far that
you have ever received from someone?

    Hey Scentsy Friends!

My Scentsy Blog post today is going to be more life related than Scentsy Fragrance related, however, I feel as though because Scentsy Fragrance is an important part in my life now, it all sort of co-mingles together anyway.

Today I want to talk about advice.... What is the best advice in life thus far that you have ever received from someone?

For me, it may be many of things that I heard time and time again growing up. My family had amazing morals and values, and although this wasn't a quote stated by anyone, I know from seeing my family's own great success in the business world, that the best piece of advice I can think of is that "Hard work pays off"

My family started a company just over 35 years ago now, and it has grown into ways that we had never imagined, and although we are widely known  as a leader in our industry now, it didn't come easy, and it didn't happen overnight. It was hard work and dedication to something we loved that got us to where we are today, but I believe the most important point in becoming successful in any type of business would be to always stay humble. My Grandparents, My Parents, and my Uncle and Aunt all are perfect examples of people who have learned to stay 110% humble and honest, and yet can still be very successful.

The next big piece of life advice I have learned over the years is that your happiness is a decision that you make on your own. You shouldn't be allowing anyone around you to determine your happiness. You are your own outcome on a daily basis. You have the choice to be happy. Even when the hard times come around, you can still choose to see the light at the end of the grumpy train tunnel. I have always tried by very best to begin every day on a happy note, and end every day on a happy note.... This doesn't mean I don't get upset ever, or that I don't get angry at times.. cause HELLO I am human too! haha, but at the end of the day, I look back at everything that I have, and how grateful that I am in life, and that, on any day, makes me happy.

My absolute favourite quote sums up both of these pieces of advice.... You'll find this quote posted everywhere around me... on my desk at home, on my business cards, and on any card I send out....

"Success is not the key to happiness. Happiness is the key to success.
If you love what you're doing you will be successful"

I can honestly say that these are now words that I choose to live by. I know that in whatever endeavors I choose to follow, that happiness will be the key to that endeavor being successful.

If you aren't happy with how things are going in your life, choose to be happy, and change things! After all, you're not a tree... get up and make a change! I am a firm believer that each day is a new opportunity to strive toward your goal, or to start a new one.

    Anyway,

What's the best piece of advice you have received? I'd love to hear it!

    Journey Update

    "Where Am I At?"
    Talkin Scents 101

Or better yet, as the majority of my family would say "where you to?" haha.... I supposed I wanted to do somewhat of another update on my life, and where I am with my Scentsy Fragrance business.

I have recently been trying to get my foot in the door with local event coordinators, if you're a Scentsy Independent Consultant you know how difficult it can be at times to get a booth or a table at these events. My tip.... become more of a friend with the coordinator... Let them know how much you appreciate the efforts they have to go through with organizing these events, and let them know that you appreciate their time. It does take time (and often, money) to get these events going, and its up to the coordinator to organize everyone who will attend. I have found that although you do want to have a business relationship with this person, you also want to know that you care about them and their personal life as well. My last event, I personally gave the coordinator a couple of the Layers by Scentsy products (I believe it was a hand cream and also a shower gel/body lotion/body spray sample) along with a thank you card. It wasn't a lot, and didn't cost me an arm and a leg, but it made me stand out from the other vendors, who didn't seem to have a care in the world for the awesome lady who got them in there in the first place.

Also, I have been trying to get some more action as far as Scentsy parties go! I find that I have a lot of people who brush off the opportunity to host, BUT as soon as they end up doing it, they regret not doing it sooner.... I think the thought of the word "party" scares people..... I mean, come on... when you think of the word party... what comes to mind?... for me, personally.. I think of having to clean up my house, and organize everything in my home, prepare to feed my guests, and cater to them as well.... I am trying to come up with ways to promote the awesome opportunity to earn the amazing host rewards, but without having the "party" seem like a daunting task. This is because in reality, it doesn't take a lot of time or effort, and you don't have to have a formal party! It can be a bunch of ladies meeting up for a coffee for half an hour and smelling testers... who doesn't like to visit a local tea or coffee shop? Everyone takes care of their own food/beverages, and you don't even have to clean the house! OR, better yet... the whole idea of a basket party! I also think the term "basket" throws people off. I personally don't put my "basket" parties in a basket.... It's in a convenient small tote bag that has everything you need.... So I have been starting to mention "tote" parties a lot as well. THEN, I also came up with the even smaller version of this, which is what I call my pouch party. I have 2 versions of this... one is in a travel makeup bag that opens up, and the other is simply in a pencil case....

Also, I want to begin to expand my own team. I have put forth a lot of time thus far into learning the ways to be a good leader. I wanted to learn this business before I started offering it to others. If you have read my recent post regarding how to be successful with direct sales and multi-level marketing, you will read about the amount of commitment it requires to manage a team... Meaning... I want to be a sponsor who is ACTUALLY there for you to help you get your business going, and also to keep you motivated. I lucked out with not being an "orphan" in this business, but I have also come across other Independent Consultants who do consider their sponsor to have left them high and dry.

Pre-Planning.... I have found, and im sure many others have found this too, that at a certan point, time management can get difficult. I have learned through reading various articles, and books about running business to know that time management is key. I work full time for my family business, and also have my Scentsy Fragrance business on the side.... I get asked quite often how I mange my time... Running a household, a family, working full time, and part time, and everything else in between. I just make it happen... really to be honest it all comes down to being organized. I spend a minimum of 15 minutes per day on my Scentsy business.... My "Min 15 Min" routine came into play when my superstar director started a 90 day challenge with our team to commit 15-30 min per day on our businesses and to post what we have done. So I have committed myself entirely to this...
One way I pre-plan is by pre-posting my Social Media posts.... many people don't realize that you can schedule your posts on Facebook. I have my regular posts (for example Wax Wednesdays, Fragrance Fridays, etc.) pre-posted for an entire month, this allows me to not have to constantly monitor my social media account, but to also stay connected with my network of followers. All of my other posts in between are just the icing on the cake.... If I find something interesting, or if I have an order going in etc, I will take the 2 seconds out of my day to let everyone know that, but as much as I can, I pre-plan.

Same goes for my flyer handouts. If you have followed me at all either on my blog or on my Facebook, you will know that I have a mass flyer delivery that I do. 250 flyers bi-weekly, that I hand make up, and fold and prep.... So, how do I have the time to do this? Well I have gotten my flyers down to a science at this point.... I now can get 500 flyers completed in about 2 hours... So typically I use my Sunday evenings once a month and have it all done. I am reaching potentially 500 households per month, and it takes me 2 hours to prep for this. Its easy peasy... and don't get me wrong you don't HAVE to do any of these things that I am talking about, but... this is how I am doing things as of right now.

Moving on to event prep.... Events can take some time to prepare for, but I always know about my events months in advance. I think my next one (which is this coming Sunday) is the first one I have every procrastinated on.... I have everything I need, so its not a matter of gaining stock (which is where most of the planning comes in to play) so really its a matter of packing up and just showing up.... I don't have to bring tables or chairs this time, so that's great.... so I will be doing a small set up and I am happy with the product I have on hand at the moment.... Enough to display, and a few extra bars to sell cash and carry if need be. Although I tend to use my events to network and make new connections rather than selling product. I always get my money's worth at least back in sales as to what it cost me to actually rent the space for the event, but after that, I kick back and relax and let everyone else around me see how easy it really is to do what I do.

Anyway Scentsy Friends... this is my Scentsy Blog Update for now!

Wish me luck with my goals!!

    Network Marketing / Multi-Level Marketing
    & Being Successful

The average person, when thinking about multi-level marketing (aka MLM) or direct sales companies have the image in their head... You'd think its all about housewives buying and selling plastic containers or candles while gossiping and eating finger sandwiches, or perhaps a high-pressure salesperson trying to convince you how easily you can get rich if only you and your friends and their friends and so on would buy and sell vitamins with him.

Both of these perceptions could not be further from reality. It is neither a hobby or a get rich scheme (reverting back to my recent post about the Pyramid Scheme vs. Multi-Level Marketing - if you haven't read that, check it out).

Being part of direct sales, although it isn't a difficult position to obtain or to be successful with, it does take time and effort. Multi-level marketing is simply an opportunity to earn money running your own part-time or full-time business. So with this given opportunity, what does it take to be successful?

    It's your choice!

You will have to choose wisely, there are many opportunities within the direct sales world to choose from, because you don't have to be "qualified" for the position, the choice is yours.... however, there are a few key elements when choosing the right company (or choosing a good company for that matter). Starting off, you're going to want to look into the stability of the company.... How long have they been in business? Next, think about what product and/or service the company is providing? Is it a product that is of good quality that is also in demand? Is there an opportunity for repeat customers?

Next you'll definitely want to consider how this company plans on paying you.... How fair or even is the pay? It is crucial that you are fully aware of how you will be paid for your efforts before you decide to hop on their band-wagon so to speak. It shouldn't be hard for you to access this information, and you should be told up front before you pay for your enrollment fee (if there is one).

This part is the most important aspect in my opinion, but you're going to want to look into the integrity of the company. As much as it is possible, do your research into the leaders of said company, who is their CEO and what do they believe in, and how do they present their business and/or themselves?

Lastly, when it comes to choosing the right company.... how well do they train you? how well are you supported throughout your journey? Do they even have training or are you left to figure it out on your own, and/or guess that your sponsor (the person whom you sign up under) is going to be good at what they do?

Success - you get out what you put in.

It's a business after all, so treat it like one. What I mean by that is, if you had a store-front, a restaurant, or any other business for that matter, you would have someone who takes care of doing certain things, such as your taxes. You are running your own business, so you will have that ability to write certain things off while running said business, so you're going to want to do your research (in the least) as to what can and cannot be included in your tax return. Now don't get me wrong here, you CAN do taxes yourself (at least where I live you can) but its in your best interest to make sure that these are done properly, and that you get the best benefit that you can out of your business.

Don't quit your day job just yet. This goes back to my point in which you don't just make money overnight. This business takes time, and effort, and although its not unheard of, will not replace your full income right away. Take your time with this company and ensure your 110% comfortable with your income level you're receiving before you make hasty decisions. On a personal note, I have not yet replaced my full income from my full time job, however, I also do not work my business as a full-time placement. Being part of the company I have chosen, I work it part-time and fully enjoy it that way. Again, you get out what you put in.

The world wide web - This is an amazing place to START your direct sales business but I have to encourage everyone that is looking into this, that your best bet and the best way to be successful in this type of industry is to be involved face to face with your customers. Get out there and meet people! Social media is taking direct sales to a whole new playing field, but you want to ensure that you're not one of those who are flooding the internet and causing red flags among others. Social Media can be a blessing and a curse, so use the internet wisely. Also, to point out, the company that you've chosen to be a part of, may offer you a personal website for your customers to order from ensure that if you are responsible for the content, that it is updated/current, and that you are aware of any fees you may incur from having a website provided for you.

Practice what you're taught. Take the time to listen to your up-line and make sure the sponsor you have chosen to sign up under knows what their doing. There's nothing more frustrating than having a sponsor who doesn't know the business themselves, and cannot offer you any help. Do your research. Call the company and ask for someone higher up to sign up under if need be so you know you will have the support and guidance that is sometimes needed when first starting off in direct sales. What that person has done to become successful is duplicable, so be sure its someone who is willing to  "spill the beans" so to say. This point also goes back to, as well, whether or not the company offers training (other than from your up line). Is there a way for you to receive training on your own without your sponsor or director having to tell you themselves? You should have (in some form) access to training and information pertaining to all of the how-to's and the in's and out's of the company that you'd need to know to be successful.
However, with that being said, your up line (your sponsor, your director etc.) should be at your disposal for you to call up at anytime and say "I need your help!!"

Orphans - There is a term in the direct sales world where some people are referred to as orphans. Meaning, they sign up under someone, and they are left to fend for themselves. Being part of direct sales, if you choose to grow a team (although you shouldn't have to do this to be successful - again go back to my post about The Pyramid Scheme vs. MLM) you need to be willing to nurture your recruit. You should be willing to dedicate a lot of your time in the beginning to helping your down line understand themselves how to start up and how to run their business. In my personal opinion, unless you're ready and prepared to guide a team, don't start building one. You can still be successful in direct sales without building a team. So make sure, before doing so, you know the commitment you will need to put forth to be a good leader.
This being said, too... don't allow yourself to become an orphan ... ask questions, and be confident that your up line should be helping you in the beginning.

So, with this novel of a post being said.... Why did I choose Scentsy Fragrance?

Scentsy Family HQ - Meridian, Idaho
    Celebrating 10 Years (2004-2014)

First off, when doing research on this company, I was able to find multiple well written and articulated news articles relating to the success of this company. I was also able to research the owner and CEO Orville and Heidi Thompson with ease. Scentsy Fragrance was stared in 2004, and was started from the ground up in a nutshell... (actually in a shipping container). Orville and Heidi do not hide the hardships they went through in the beginning to get this company off the ground and running full speed. It took a lot of time, and a lot of effort on their part.

I knew the product quality already, because I had seen and purchase the product as a customer before, however, I was sold on the safety aspect of the product as well having a young daughter at home. Personally, I LOVE LOVE LOVE candles, but HATE HATE HATE fire. So this was a no brainer for me. I was a candle addict, and now I can be a wickless candle addict and feel safe about doing it!

It is also apparent (even in this very month) how quality is extremely important to the company. If you've followed by blog, you'd know that I recently posted about the July Warmer Of The Month "It's A Party" and how Scentsy decided due to quality not meeting their standards that they would not allow themselves to promote or sell this product. If it doesn't please them, they do not sell it to others. Just imagine how much money it cost to have all of those warmers shipped in, to realize the hand-painted warmer just wasn't "up to par" .... but they stand for what they believe in.

My favourite part about Scentsy Fragrance though, is that each and every one of the consultants who sign up are automatically brought into a family. The Scentsy Family. I speak on a daily basis with consultants from all over the world (not just on my team) and everyone is always willing to give you advice, or a helping hand. We are truly there for one another and refer to ourselves as Scentsy Sisters and Brothers. I have even received personal messages from Heidi Thompson, and for this lady who has a million people messaging and emailing her each day, it was nice to see that even me, as the little guy, was still considered important in her eyes.

The pay with the Scentsy Family is also great.... They are upfront with how the commissions percentages are based. Briefly explained - you start off at 20% commission, and never less than that, but once you reach you first sales goal, your commission is automatically increased to 25% (for me this happened with my first order)... and after that, if you reach certain goals, you can also earn bonuses of 5% plus other incentives like product credit for certain sales goals etc.... They also have a full on compensation chart that is posted in every catalogue to breakdown how commissions are calculated. It's a simple points system (called Personal Retail Volume or PRV) that calculates your sales.... Now... before you even ask.,... Why is it a points system?.. Well simply put, Scentsy is sold World Wide, and in order to make this a fair playing field for everyone all over the world, they base sales on points, that way everyone makes the same based on their sales even with different currencies. *feel free to ask me for more details*

Did I mention they will also send you on all-expenses paid vacations? Of course you need to qualify, but they give you all the tools you need to qualify for these amazing incentives! There is one going on right now actually... It's called Can-Do Cancun, which is a trip to Cancun in January 2015 when you reach a certain point value goal with them. There are tons of consultants who have already achieved this goal :)

Scentsy offers training calls weekly, which are also accessible 24/7 on your workstation (which is the place online that you can organize your business that is provided to you by Scentsy). They also offer incentive events such as Spring Sprint, which was a training session that went across the countries so consultants could attend and get one on one advice from the head honchos in our industry to hear from them personally.

I also have the most amazing up line... My director is out of this world enthusiastic and encouraging! She has given me a lot of advice, and has lifted my spirits on many occasions! My sponsor is quite the gal as well, she's actually a school teacher, and some how, that made me think that she'd be awesome with patience (and I was definitely right about that) I think I asked her 1000 questions in the first 2 days of signing up haha, but she was there for me, and helped me when I needed her.

I have built up a confidence in this business, and I am geared up to pass along my knowledge of everything to everyone I come across. I really cant wait to add to my own team and to be able to be there for them, like my up line has been for me.

Anyway, for those of you who have read through this.... I appreciate you stopping by!
If you did make it through, send me an email ;) tell me your story, and ask me questions!
