Dear Scentsy Friends,

I came across an article online, and I have to say that I am overwhelmed with joy when I read such amazing things regarding a company that I have chosen to be a part of. I encourage you to read the article, and to read for yourself the true honesty and compassion that Heidi and Orville Thompson have. I have to also say, that the announcement made by Heidi and Orville this past week regarding the discontinuation of Grace Adele was outstanding. Being a Grace Adele Independent Consultant as well, I was truly saddened by the news... However, it again, is not discouraging. From a business perspective, sometimes tough decisions must be made... and that's just life. I can see it in both Heidi and Orville the heartbreak that it has caused to even have to make such an altering decision. I believe 100% and stand behind their decision though. For those of you who are interested in watching the announcement, I encourage you to, look for it on YouTube... It will give you an inside look at our wonderful Owners..
 

I don't really know how many of you truly understand the lengths that this company goes to help teach, and encourage their employees at head office, as well as Independent Scentsy Family Consultants all over the world. This isn't all about earning an income (but don't get me wrong, that's amazing on its own) but this company has programs dedicated to those who are involved with the Scentsy family to help better their lives in many ways.

 

They have a 24/7 training center that can be accessed online at anytime from our Scentsy Workstation account - it has links, photos, slide shows, and personal stories from others that help encourage you to do your best.... and also HOW TO DO IT! My favourite part is the new "monthly theme" that they've introduced as well to the training center... it helps you focus on different areas of your business, and how to be successful.

You see, the Scentsy Family is not all about making money.... Its about being part of a family. I have said it time and time again... some people laugh at me, and some people seem simply confused (especially those who have had negative experiences with other DS companies).... however, it's the truth, and that's my own personal opinion.

 

Scentsy has offered me the ability to be involved in something bigger than what I had anticipated... and although I'm just one of a million right now, that doesn't mean that what I have to offer, and what I have to share with those around me isn't important.

My voice may not be heard by the masses, but I refuse to let that discourage me.... I may not be a Scentsy Independent Director, or any of that.... I may not even have started a team yet... but that doesn't mean I'm not part of something bigger than what I can reach out and currently grasp. I know, in time, my perseverance will pay off... and the best part is... I don't feel as though I'm wasting my time.... Simply because, I really do love what I'm doing. And that alone, Scentsy friends, is enough for me.

Scentsy TAG

Hey Scentsy Friends!!

There have been videos flying around YouTube with an Independent Scentsy Consultant TAG

Although I haven't yet done my video version of this (soon to come I promise!) I thought I cold still share with you my answers to the TAG questions :) 

Oh and by the way, you might be thinking that this is probably going to take longer to type out than it would have been to just do a video in the first place... And you're probably right... Lol 

The reason that I am doing this version now is because my Scentsy office is in shambles at the moment... In the middle of redoing my Scentsy space ... So I don't have a good place to film it at the moment! NEW OFFICE ARRIVES TOMORROW .... YAYYYYY!!

Anyway getting on with it lol

Question 1: What's in your Scentsy warmers right now?

Answer: my bedroom has Zen Garden, my upstairs bathroom has Lilacs & Violets, my daughters room has Newborn Nursery, my kitchen has Mochadoodle, my dining room/where my office is going has Mystery Man, my living room also has Mystery Man, and my downstairs bathroom has Simply Irresistible

Question 2: What is your all time favourite scent?

Answer: Wow this is a tough one.... Off the bat I want to say blueberry cheesecake because that's the first scent I ever smelled warming, but I have to say that my favourite is probably Happy Go Lucky

Question 3: How many warmers do you have?

Answer: Well I guess question 1 kind of gives this away... But my personal warmers that I use at home, I have 7... To make this answer a little more interesting I will tell you which warmers I currently am using... My bedroom has the Black Zebra Element, my upstairs bathroom has the Taro plug in, my daughters room has the Cupcake, my kitchen has Natures Haven, my office/dining room has the sleek black warmer that I received at Spring Sprint with the 10 years frame, my living room has the lue chevron, and my downstairs bathroom has the whoot plug in 

Question 4: What type of scents do you prefer?

Answer: Hmmm... I can't say I'm overly picky, I like a lot of scents... But if I had to pick I would probably say clean/fresh smells. Now, with that said my opinion on clean and fresh changes lol

Question 5: How long have you been an Independent Scentsy Consultant? OR When did you first discover Scentsy?

Answer: I guess I could answer both of these questions .. I became an Independent Scentsy Consultant at the end of October 2013... But I first discovered Scentsy at the beginning of 2013 at my friends house (which is also where I first smelt blueberry cheesecake)

Question 6: What is the first fragrance you ever warmed?

Answer: The first fragrance I ever warmed was Welcome Home because that's what I was sent in my starter kit :)

Question 7: What is your favourite bath and body/ Layers product?

Answer: My favourite bath & body product would be my daily duo of Sunkissed Citrus shower gel and body lotion... But my favourite Layers product is the Washer Whiffs and Liquid Laundry :) especially in black raspberry vanilla 

Question 8: Do you coordinate according to season?

Answer: Yes and No.... I generally don't change all of my warmers... I might change the one in my office to something seasonal, but other than that my warmers are my warmers and they stay where the are lol ... As far as scents go though, I suppose I do change them according to season.... I guess that's mainly because Scentsy puts out seasonal scents (spring&summer or fall&winter) for their catalogue seasons. So I typically have in my home what is currently available in the catalogue :) right now I have more floral scents and fruity scents... And in the fall and winter I generally have the more cozy scents (cinnamon and pumpkin etc)

Question 9: What scent would you like Scentsy to come out with?

Answer: Hmmmmm... Another tough one... They have everything lol... But I guess something that smells like barbecue haha... I mean if they can duplicate the scent of a tomato vine, or burnt rubber km sure they can get my house smelling like barbecued ribs haha

Question 10: which scents do you want back for good?

Answer: Eucalyptus... Hands down. Love it and so does everyone else I know!

The most frequently asked question I receive from customers (as well as newer consultants) is how long certain Scentsy Fragrance products last. I have come up with my own personal experience "rule-of-thumb" chart for the basics! :)

My Scent Opinion:

 

If you want my personal opinion of Sugared Blooms, I do have to say, for a person who isn't overly fond of floral smells, I do LOVE this one. I has a hint of floral, but I feel as though the combination of the scent of fresh berries somewhat brings that strong floral scent down a notch.

 

When I first get my Scent Of The Month package, I always smell the scent before I read it's description. The only way I could describe this Scent was "MMMM IT SMELLS LIKE SPRING".

 

My daughter thought I was a little crazy, being five years old, she can't quite wrap her mind around how a season has its own smell... haha. She said "Mommy.... spring is not a scent"... Oh man... so of course the Scentsy Lady in me sprung into the "Scents Evoke Memories" type of conversation, and in the end my daughter understood.

 

I may have taken us smelling EVERY tester I have in stock, but she eventually got the idea. She would smell scents like... French Lavender from our favourites collection, and she would say "This smells like nanny's bed" - which was the perfect way for me to describe how the memory of cuddling nanny in her bed was evoked by the scent.

 

Of course, my mom, aka "NANNY" uses the Scentsy Layers laundry aids in French Lavender haha.

SPRING!!

SPRING IS IN THE AIR!!

 

 



Yes... EVEN IN CANADA!!

I was so excited to wake up this morning and the temperature was +5 outside! Time for us Canadians to bust out our t-shirts and shorts! haha

All joking aside though, I am really excited to be able to be outside and not shiver my buns off! Although, that silly weather man I always talk about has called for "flurries" tomorrow.... ugh. Oh well! The majority of my 10ft tall snow bank at the end of my driveway has melted... its probably only about 4-1/2 ft tall now! Which means I can see traffic coming and its not like playing a driveway version of chicken every time you leave the house!

FIRE PREVENTION & CANDLE VS. SCENTSY COMPARISON

LETS TALK SAFETY!!

 

 

 

 

DONT LET THIS BE YOU!!

 

 

I cant stress enough about the safety aspect of using the Scentsy Fragrance system. As a young mother, I used to stress over having lit candles in my home. As much as I loved the smell of them, the enjoyment aspect of having a lit candle was always overthrown by the risks of having that candle lit.

 

Candles are one of the top causes of house fires in Canada and the USA.

 

Statistics reveal that the most common causes of fire are:

• Leaving candles unattended.
• Falling asleep while a candle is lit.
• Using candles for light.
• Candles located too close to burnable objects.
• Candles knocked over by children, pets or sudden drafts.

When you use traditional flame candles, as much as you try to prevent accidents from happening, often times things can be out of your control.

Did you know that by law:

There are no legal standards or regulations for candles, including their make, design, safety features, location or use

Candles are not tested by a testing agency for safety before they are put on the market for you to buy

 

This means that the even the big name candle manufactures do not have to take precautions for the safety aspect of their product. Candles are a USE AT YOUR OWN RISK product.

 

 

Although Candles provide great warmth and ambiance to any home, it is easy to forget that such a calming artifact is an open flame that can reach 1,400 °C. 

 

 

SO, SERIOUSLY... DITCH THE WICK!!

 

 

 

 

Scentsy fragrance prides themselves on the safety aspect of their system. Not only do you NOT have to remember to turn your warmers off, you can feel safe leaving them on 24/7! I, personally, have a warmer right in my daughters room! You can feel safe, and sleep tight at night with these products. They do go through a process to ensure their safety, and back up their products.

 

The warmers use a low-watt light bulb to gently and slowly melt the Scentsy wax. They also do not get hot enough to melt the wax to the point that it could hurt anyone. The wax is also much safer than your typical hard wax found in regular candles. It is a food-grade paraffin wax that does not emit any smoke, soot, or toxins into the air.

 

Traditional candle wax will melt away, and the wax actually evaporates into the air, which is harmful for your lungs over time. The soot also, if placed close to walls (for example, when they are on sconces on walls or on a shelf/table) will leave black soot all over the place. You may not notice at first, but over time if the candle is not repositioned, you will see the soot damage on your personal belongings (as shown in photo below). Scentsy wax does not evaporate into the air. The scent will be warmed and will fill the room from the oils in the wax, but will not dissipate. Your scent will eventually run out, and you will be left with a soft wax that is no longer scented. You simply dispose of this wax, and place a new cube into your warmer.

 

 

 

 

PRICE COMPARISON

 

Okay, so now that you know the fire safety side of Scentsy Fragrance, lets talk about the amount of money you "burn" by purchasing candles. (PRICES STATED BELOW ARE IN CANADIAN)

 

SCENTSY: You will have a one time cost for a warmer, whichever you may choose.

One Scentsy Bar costs $6

Scentsy Combine & Safe - Buy 5 Bars, Get One FREE is $30

You with me so far? ... 6 Bars = $30

Each bar has an estimated warming time of about 80 hours or more (some fragrances are stronger and can last up to 100+ hours)

So... 6 Bars X 80 Hours (I will use the minimum warm time) = 480 hours of warm time

So lets just give a life example... I currently use about 3 Bars Per week (maybe even less depending on what Scent it is) for 3 large warmers in my house.

3 Bars X 52 Weeks = 156 Bars

156 Bars divided by 6 (the buy 5, get one free deal) = 26 Sets Of 6 Bars @ $30 = $780 PER YEAR

 

BRAND NAME JAR CANDLE:

One Medium Name Brand Jar Candle Costs $25
6 Medium Jar Candles Cost $150
Each Medium Jar Candle has an estimated burn time of about 45-60 hours
So... 6 Candles X 60 (I will even be nice and use their max time) = 360 hours of warm time

 

So lets put this into the same Scenario as I stated above.....

Lets just say I went through 3 candles per week (if I were able to have more than one lit in my home and could be in 3 places at once to monitor them)
3 Candles X $25 = $75/week X 52 Weeks = $3900 PER YEAR

 

TOTAL DIFFERENCE: $3900 - $780 = $3120 SAVINGS PER YEAR!

 

Not to mention the fact that once you purchase a jar candle, you are stuck with that one fragrance until it burns out and evaporates.

With Scentsy, I can change my mind as often as I'd like. If a scent isn't worn out yet, I can pour it back into its original container, and reuse it again! Then I just pop in a different cube from another Scentsy and VOILLA... I can change my mind as often as I change my clothes!! lol

 

The worst case scenario with using Scentsy, is that wax spills

CLEAN IT UP!

THE BEST WAYS TO CLEAN YOUR WARMERS

 

 

 

There are several ways that you can clean your warmers, and all of them work just as well as one another. I just have found ways that I find work easiest for myself.

 

IF YOUR WAX IS FULLY MELTED:

 

My favourite method is just by simply using paper towel to soak up old unscented wax, and wipe the dish clean. This works the best for me, especially with plug in warmers.

 

You may find that with plug in warmers, because they do not have a removable dish, if you try and unplug the warmer while the wax is still melted, it causes more of a spilling hazard.

 

Simply break off a piece of paper towel, and hold it in the dish, it will soak up the wax, and then use a second piece of paper towel to wipe the dish clean.

 

IF YOUR WAX IS SOFT BUT NOT COMPLETELY MELTED:

 

Use your Scentsy mini spatula! I offer these to my customers who place an order of $50 or more at no charge to them! They work great for removing "softened" wax. (As shown in the photo above).

REMOVING SOLIDIFIED WAX:

 

If you wish to remove solidified wax from a warmer, simply use a DULL butter knife and score around the edges of the wax (follow the edge of the wax all the way around) and you will find that the wax will just pop out in one solid piece.

 

KEEP IN MIND THAT YOU ONLY WANT TO GET RID OF WAX THAT NO LONGER SMELLS!!

 

Always remember you can re-use your wax if it still has scent left. To reuse it, simply pour the remaining wax from the warmer BACK into its original container. It will re-solidify and you can re-use it again.

 

CLEANING LEFT OVER RESIDUE:

 

I have had a couple customers call me and question me as to what the "brownish" residue is in the bottom of their warmer, and why its there, and how to get rid of it.

 

This residue is caused by wax not being changed frequently enough. If you are like me and leave your warmers on 24/7 (because YES YOU CAN do this with Scentsy warmers), you will need to change your wax out a little bit more frequently than if you chose to turn a warmer on and off. I have found from personal experience that this residue occurs when uncented wax is left in the warmer for too long.

Its not a big deal, its not harming your warmer, it just causes the clean up to not be just a "wipe and your done"

What I do to remove it is simple... use the same methods as mentioned above to remove the wax. Then all I do is wipe it out as much as possible, and then spray some Eco-Friendly household all purpose cleaner in the dish and let it sit for 10 minutes or so, and then wipe it clean. (In our home we try to be as Eco-Friendly as possible with cleaners - my better half owns an Eco-Friendly cleaning company! Feel free to check them out as well!! www.mckeeclean.ca)

 

WAX ON THE BOTTOM OF MY WARMER DISH:

 

More often than not I find myself so overly excited to put in a new scent, or replace my current scent to have my house filled with my favourite aromas, that I tend to be slightly clumsy.

 

Sometimes I dump my wax into the trash can, or if I am reusing wax, back into the original container, and a drip of wax will flow over the side and go on the under part of my waming dish.

 

This is something you want to ensure that you clean properly. I say this because you have to picture what is going to happen if you put that dish back onto your warmer and begin to melt the wax... you run the risk of wax possibly dripping onto your light bulb and into the electrical components of your warmer.

 

Don't panic though, because again, Scentsy warmers (no matter the issue) are durable and easy to clean. What I do I try to soak up as much of the wax as possible with a paper towel, and then I soak it in really hot water, and then try to soak up more of the wax. I repeat this process (2-3 times) until the wax is completely removed from the bottom side of the dish.

SPRING SPRINT 2014

SPRING SPRINT 2014

This past weekend was SO exciting for me! Not only did I celebrate my daughter's 5th Birthday! (OMG GROWING SO FAST!) but I was also given the opportunity to attend Scentsy's Spring Sprint in Toronto, ON!!

 

I had never been to one before (NEWBIE!!) and I had to admit that I was so anxious and almost nervous about going that I spoiled the surprise for myself by joining the "Spoilers" page on Facebook. I don't know WHY I was nervous... I guess I tend to be a little obsessive when it comes to pre-planning, and wanted to ensure that I was prepared for what was to come.

 

Now that I think back, being surprised may have been better, but at the same time, I knew what to bring, what to buy, and what I was getting myself into. So... positive, negative ... Ah well! It is what it is!

 

I do have to say though, I am SOOOOO glad that I went! What a great learning opportunity, and experience. I learned many things, and took so many notes that my hand was cramping and I actually got a blister on my finger!

 

Everyone that attending was in such good spirits, and everyone pumped each other up! It was definitely a good motivational boost event to go to. Especially around this time of the year... I posted recently about the "5th season" and the stage of being in the "winter blues". This event was a great pick-me-up and helped everyone regain focus and set goals for 2014!

 

My sponsor Meaghann and I arrived SUPER early. We were both anxious to get into registration, and then to hit up the Scentsy Family Store. We arrived around 7:30AM, and were registered by 7:45AM. We immediately went to the Family Store, had about a 10 min wait in line, and purchased some goodies for the upcoming spring/summer season! (I got a couple packs of the spring/summer Scentsy Fragrance catalogues, Showcase Brochures, Product Lists, Category Stickers and Cards, the spring/summer Grace Adele catalogues, Mini Scentsy Flashlights, Sunglass Cases, and probably a couple other goodies). By the time we finished our mini-shopping spree, it was only 8:30AM. General session didn't start until 10AM. Sooo... we mingled around, checked out the displays, and then waited for our team to come!

During the General Session Paul and Jeff spoke about "selfies" and were teasing one another, so I decided that the time was fitting to take one! LOL

After Paul showed us his amazing wonder woman Power Pose, Jeff decided to one-up him and give us this little show! Yay for Canada shirts! lol

 

After about a 1-2 hour presentation and some amazing giveaways, we broke for lunch! MMMM thank goodness, because I was STARVING! lol

 

After lunch (we had about an hour and half to eat and return) the breakout sessions started. How this worked was there were 6 rooms available that had different leaders doing presentations on various topics. You were able to choose 3 sessions and attend them in any order you'd like. I chose to go to one on recruiting and building your team, one that was on expanding your business beyond family and friends, and then one on Velata. I have to say the first two sessions I attended were AMAZING. the speakers we well versed, and were so personable and easy to listen to. We learned so many different things about how to speak to people, how to approach people, and how to connect on personal levels. I was extremely disappointed with the Velata speaker though, I have to admit. She had a beautiful display, but she didn't really speak about anything. She dipped an apple in chocolate, and then grilled a sandwich on the racklette table top grill. She then pointed us to Google for recipes and ideas for Velata. Honestly... it was horrible, and I feel AWFUL saying that. The poor girl... I don't know if maybe she was just nervous, or wasn't comfortable... but she had to of known what she was getting signed up for when she agreed to be a speaker at this event. It was just so... unprepared?... I guess that's a good way to describe it. Any who, she didn't sell me on the Velata opportunity, so that sucked. It almost felt like a waste of time and that I could have gone to a much more informative session. 

 

By the end, we were EXHAUSTED, and our heads were filled with new ideas, and we were motivated to set our goals for 2014!

 

If you debated going to SS this year, and chose not to, then I suggest you go next year! Its a ton of fun, and its only $60!! You definitely get a lot out of the information they provide.

 

I guess I should also mention the "Free Product Kit" that you receive when you sign up for Spring Sprint. I personally chose to sign up under Scentsy Fragrance (as that's the only brand I was offering at the time that I signed up). In my kit I received quite a few things including: The Scentsy 10 Year warmer/frame (looks very similar to March 2014's warmer of the month), I received one Scentsy Bar in Nashi Nectar (smellllls delish), a set of the spring/summer transition mini testers, a 25-pack of the spring/summer catalogues, washer whiffs in "Scentsy Clean", Liquid Laundry in "Scentsy Clean", one Grace Adele spring/summer 2014 catalogue, one spring/summer Velata Catalogue, A Scentsy Family pen, a Spring Sprint workbook, and probably a few extra goodies as well that I'm drawing a blank on right now).

 

It was so worth going... It almost makes me want to spend the money to attend Family Reunion... although I'm not quite sure if that's in this years budget!

PS... I may or may not have about 20 Scentsy Family pens... not sure where they all came from, but when I got home that evening, there they all were in the bottom of my bag! WHOOPS!
